Counting

In general, it’s the …th of the month, yet:

  • 1st
  • 2nd
  • 3rd
  • 21st
  • 22nd
  • 23rd
  • 31st
  • Etc…

I’m Dutch, and I value my own language, try to speak and write it properly. On the web, I hardly visit any local website; I don’t see the advantage when I can connect with the whole world, and so I’m using English - why not do that properly, too. Here’s some stuff I need to be reminded about.

Quotes

  • ‘ for an opening single quote - [‘];
  • ’ for a closing single quote (or an apostrophe) - [’];
  • “ for an opening double quote - [“];
  • ” for a closing double quote - [”].

And because I often don’t finish my sentences:

  • … for a horizontal ellipsis (three dot leader) - […].

Spelling

You’ll look foolish:

  • Probably (not problably)
  • Miscellaneous
  • Worthwhile
