fresh clean white(ish) desk
screenshot here
finally took a bit of time to put a desk together. most of the time i spend on my puter seems to be spent on projects, and then i always find myself wishing my desk looked mice.
not much at all running here, plain vanilla windows. only thing was my xBar app used to remove the taskbar and the desktop icons ( no active desktop needed ). also, a bunch of vb script shortcuts on the toolbar to offer some window control and start menu access.
qoa's toolbar screen got me playing with toolbars again, and they are definately fun

Looking good meth, nice and minimal, and white

Good job.
There is so much stuff you can do with just those toolbars. Somebody in irc told me that you hold control and click on a link to a drive and have a submenu with the contents pop up. I wonder if you could make a shortcut that would do that without the right click. I don't know if the ctrl key can be added with a variable or not. Just some ideas.
Nice desktop man. The icons go well with your toolbar.

winT & qoa, thanks, both of you.
you're right about that qoa, those toolbars do rock. you are also correct inthat when you press cntl and click on any folder on a toolbar, a popup menu does come up. that's why i love this toolbar so much
in the toolbar in my screenshot, the top three icons are the icons normally on my desktop. the second one, marked 'com' is the my computer icos, and when you cntl+click on it, a cascading menu appears of all the drives, folders, files, etc. not only that, but the right click works in the cascading menu, so any open with file asscoiations still work.
it's seriously sweet, man.

It would be nice to be able to just click on it and get those menus.

ah, excuse my ignorance, but what are these "toolbars" you all speak so highly of? I'm lost

if you right click on your taskbar, you have a menu for them.
you know, quick launch and whatnot.
if you drag any of them off of your taskbar, you can create a standalone toolbar.
FnaD, make a folder in say C: called 'bar' or something dumb. Put a couple of shortcuts to often used programs into it. Then right click on a blank spot on your taskbar. Select Toolbars>NewToolbar>Yourfolderyoujustmade
You'll have a pretty ugly toolbar, full of text and icons. Drag the toolbar to the top of your screen until it docks itself. Right click on it, and select 'stay on top', uncheck 'show title' uncheck 'show text' if you like, select show large icons. You can do a new toolbar and select your My Computer and have shortcuts to your drives there. You can hold Control and click on the drive icons and have a cascading menu with the contents of that drive in it.
If you have Samurize you can make a bar show up on there. There's a LOT of possiblities.
Mine is set to always on top and auto hide. Kind of annoying at first but I'm so used to it, that I can't use Windows without it.

qoa: It would be nice to be able to just click on it and get those menus.
If you don't use your Links folder, you can do this: put a folder in it, with more shortcuts and folders inside of it. Add the Links toolbar (right click taskbar > Toolbars > Links), and now there's a folder that can be clicked (without holding ctrl) to bring up a menu. Thanks to arhra for showing me this little trick. Here's a
screenshot (note: chevron is just an icon).

meth and qoa:
thanks!. That's a fantastic trick. couple that with what undefined suggested, and you've got a funky flexible launch solution. I've set up a couple of different folders and put them at either end of my quicklaunch and its wonderfull. Thanks again guys
