Different Resolutions Per User (WinXP) and Places Menu questions
Hello.
I'm pretty new to this community so I apologize if this is the wrong kind of thing to post here, but I figure this is a tweaking/modification community so this would be my best bet for an answer.
So, on with the questions.
1) Different Resolutions Per User on Windows XP
Are either or both of the following possible on Windows XP?
- Icon in system tray for quickly switching resolutions
- Remembering different resolutions on a per-user basis
I found a (sort of) answer to this problem searching in Google.
It came up with an Annoyances.org forum post where someone asked this question based on Win2k. They posted a link to a program that will change the resolutions with login scripts, but I'd rather that you are able to change the resolution within the profile and have Windows remember it.
And (sorry for making this so long)...
2) The Places Bar (Is that the right name?)
Can you add more than 5 icons to the menu. The way it looks now on my system it seems like one more could fit.
And can you force the bar to appear on all file-open/save dialogs? Some dialogs for some programs don't show this handy bar. A friend of mine mentioned this might be possible, so I figured this would be a good place to ask. I imagine that if it is possible, then someone here must have done it before.
Okay, so that's it. I hope I'm not overstepping any rules by just posting a bunch of questions here.
Thanks for any replies.
Rob.
I think that for the latter you can try having a look around in the customize start menu option by right clicking the taskbar. I am sure I have seen an option for this, just look hard.
Also I remember having the same problem with the first thing, cause I like it on 1280x1024 to do graphics work but my blind parents wanted it on something stupid like 800x600 on a 17" monitor!
For resolutions, you also can have a short cut to an app set to change your resolution. Then have different shortcuts for different user startups. You also could use shortpopup to create menus of it, or put them in the start menu. THought display properties could do that itself tho: icon in the tray that is?
Display properties can do a systray icon, but it gets to be a hassle because many computer users can accidently put the resolution very huge and with only 16-bit color. The display properties will display all resolutions in every possible color bit.
Scripts are nice also. I think this would be a nice built-in feature for later Windows releases, as with all of thier accessibility features, you would think resolution changes would be a must-have for anyone who is handycapped in any way. I keep wondering who MS is designing thier software for.
