Kvwm - Virtual Window Manager

Yes i'm still around. Perhaps not as active as I once was, but around nonetheless. :)

Anyways, I thought that I would release this for anyone interested.

(excerpt from readme)

"Kvwm is a Virtual Window Manager, which increases the available work area by creating virtual desktops and allowing the user to switch between them. Kvwm attempts to be simple while at the same time offer a high degree of customization."

So yes, it's a simple desktop pager / vwm type application, it has a minimal look to it which was intended, and plenty of options to tweak away at. If it proves to be popular, I have some other ideas for it as well.

Hiya meth! VB, yay!

Uhm... whats it do? I had a bit of a fiddle, couldn't really work it out. I've never used anything like this before tho... so you can happily put it down to me being a dumb user :) I *could* read the source, but its easier to just play dumb user and ask here :D

Given that I don't entirely know what it does, making a feature request could be a bit silly, but here goes... Does it (or can it) flip the "show in taskbar" bit for windows that aren't part of the current set? I could see that being a very handy addition. Yep, once again, I could read the source :)

Would it be better started before all other apps? I've got [counts...] 22 running windows at the moment.

Something I did notice... one of my windows showed up as a borderthickness over on the left of the screen. Not entirely sure which one (far too many open). I've got a feeling it may have been vs2003, but thats just gut feeling.

Imma have a play with this next time I reboot this machine. Looks very interesting

Well, simply put, it creates extra desktops, and by clicking on the appropiate vwm square, it switches to that desktop. By opening up or restoring windows while on another desktop, you can keep windows organized by desk. Not sure if I can explain it better than that. :) Perhaps you were looking / expecting it to do more...

I'd love to be able to do the taskbar thing, where it shows only the windows that are on the current desk, but to be honest, I don't know how. :) If anyone does know how that works, please let me know, and I'd be glad to try and implement it.

Last but not least, the border showing up issue is one that i was planning on addressing before release, but, well, i kinda forgot. :P It's easy to fix though, and since I've had some other feature requests from else where already, it will be part of the next release which should be soon.

this might do the trick - http://vb.mvps.org/samples/project.asp?id=FormBdr - Karl E does good stuff

I guess I really should close some applications, start up the tool, then open them again, to get a feel for what it does. I sorta got the feeling that I'd started it a wee bit late :). Is it primarily designed for people who don't run everything fullscreen? 95% of my applications are maximised, which probably didn't help me any.

Good to hear you already know about the border thing. I hate being the first to report bugs.

Great to see you coding again too!

fullscreen shouldn't be a problem, but i just thought of something -
for some reason, it doesn't like to move the VB IDE, and I bet it doesn't like moving the VS IDE either, and you mentioned that you had that open.

I'll have to do some exploring of problem apps. :)

Typical, meth. You do something done before, yet, this time it lacks all the bullshit, but has all the small necessities. Looks cool from start, just does its work, lovely.

agreed, plastic. just what someone like me (keeping things minimal) would love.

very nice. :)
