Just saying hello to everyone :)

Well, here I am again, making yet another return, after yet another departure, though this time is different, seeing as how I'm here to stay this time around :)

My old system, the PI, running at 133Mhz, was fried about 2 months ago by a power surge, which was the result of a transformer blowing up outside of my house, on one of the many telephone poles. It ate up everything vital, and I was online at the time, which didn't help much at all, so basically everything was ruined.

I threw away everything I had, whether it was good or not, and refused to ever own anything that old and slow ever again, and it worked :)

I've got a new system, well, new to me anyway, running at 533Mhz, with 128 megs of DDR Ram... an ATI Radeon 9200 AGP video card, which has 128 megs of it's own DDR Ram, a cd burner, standard cdrom drive, 20gig 7200 RPM hardrive, and connections for everthing under the sun. I'm finally, halfway modern now. As you can imagine, this machine seems like a brand new P4 3.2 system to me! lol

Anyway, my dad gave it to my for my recent birthday, which occured on May 28th, and I was/still am just thrilled. Much better computers out there nowadays, and hell, this one is considered old and slow by today's standards, but it works great for me.

I've still got my job at the hospital, moving forward and up everyday that I work, still love it, doing well. I'm single again, good thing though :)

I hope everyone is still doing well here at VP, and look forward to hacking things up with you again. I plan on doing a major RAM upgrade here soon, then installing XP on this machine, as I think it can handle it. Can ya believe it? WinT on XP??? Who would have ever thought that would happen? Certainly not me. lol

So, much to come, and I'm so glad to be back. Again, I hope all of my old friends here from VP are doing well, and to any new users who don't remember me, I look forward to meeting/dealing with you.

Plastic... check your mail :)

grigri... the man, the myth, the legend :) I see you're thriving with new projects, always a good thing :) Glad to see you're still around my friend, really glad :)

deathmedic3rd... I remember seeing your name around, or at least I think I do, but either way, nice to meet you, and thanks for the welcome back :)

welcome back! congrats on the upgrades too! :)

Wholly crap.

Man, your system is almost exactly the same as mine...
AMD K6 533Mhz
128Mb RAM
20Gb HD
80Gb HD
Radeon 7200

You can run XP on that beast easy as pie!
Good to have you back man, hasn't been the same without you.

It's good to have you back. Sounds like things are bitter sweet. Gained an awesome machine, lost a girl, but you belong with an asian girl anyway. >:)

Belated happy birthday too! ^.^

I can't believe you're going to go to XP tho. :o Plz tell me you are thinking dual boot, right?
09 Jun. 2004 - 21:59 deathmedic3rd
well im around more now WinT...

WinT, good to have you back. Been thinking about you lately, I'd like to mod XP a bit more :) BTW, look at the "How to associate a right-click menu item to 1 file, not to extension?" thread. grigri created a wonderful app in ContextAware. :)

RAM would be the FIRST thing I'd upgrade, that seems to be your immediate constraint. It sounds like a great system, though. Nothing to sneeze at :)

Red, dual boot on a 20 Gig HD? That might be a little tight, XP is a space hog.

Welcome back WinT. Seems like you have the old enthusiasm back.

Moving to XP eh? Just went to Server 2k3 myself. OMG that thing is fast.

Good to see you back around the place.

Welcome back
10 Jun. 2004 - 11:12 WinT
Ah, good to see some familiar names in this thread, and new ones as well :) Glad to know you're all still around, and thanks for the warm, return welcome.

A RAM upgrade is definately planned in the VERY near future, just literally waiting on my next paycheck :) The Radeon card sort of hogged me, so I must wait.

After the RAM, I plan on buying XP, right out of a store here in town, not sure how much it is, the upgrade is 99 dollars, though I imagine the full install is much more, but might be worth it, at least, I hope it is :)

Red... the dual boot option has certainly been considered, but not sure. I'm afraid that if I leave 98 anywhere near this machine, I'll just default to it when things get rough on XP. I've got alot to learn about XP, too much really, but look forward to it, but I'm easy to quit on certain things, and I just smell "quitting" with XP. lol

So, dual boot? Maybe so, but probably not. If I'm gonna do it, I need to do it all the way ya know? But, who knows, my mind could change at anytime :)

Again, great to see/talk to all of you, and may the future hold great things for us :)

Beaker: /me checks that thread right now :)

Welcome back WinT .
Now let's wait and see what on earth you will do to XP ;)

Just want to say hello on this forum to :-)
12 Jun. 2004 - 01:12 Red
Oi... I was going to say I hope you end up back on 98, but then it will be that whole quiting thing. Just figure out if it is really all it's cracked up to be. You can do dual boots once you've mastered it too. If anyone can, I but you could cut the space XP needs by a lot. >:)

Welcome Back WinT, good to see you're doing well. Happy Belated Birthday!

I'm definately looking forward to what you'll do with XP, seeing as that's what I'm running here (XP-Home) and will be upgrading to XP-Pro shortly. Can't wait to see new things up at WinT's winmods.

Once again great to have you back.

If thou darest travel the way of the Demon NT, be warned, ye mortal:

NTFS kills. At the very least, your OS partition WILL be good ole FAT32, so ye can do the dirty work from a DOS floppy when things turn rotten.
17 Jun. 2004 - 22:45 JohnnyFist
Bleh, NTFS is the way to go. I had one time when I had to slave my primary drive in a different rig and fix an oopsie.

Welcome back, by the way. I'm looking forward to you headbutting XP.
