address bar search default service

My default search engine is google, so when I run a quert from my browser I get google results. I have an address bar on my Windows taskbar in which I often enter a question mark followed by search terms. This also ends up in google results, but before the terms are passed to google, they go through auto.search.msn.com. The detour causes my search to take several times longer and I'd just prefer having nothing at all to do with MSN. Does anyone know how I can force Windows to bybass that MSN default and use google directly?

My ResourceSearcher program turned this up:

Library : C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll
(76) #1211 : http://auto.search.msn.com/response.asp?MT=%1&srch=%2&prov=%3&utf8

This seems to be the url the autosearch goes to, with %1 indicating the search parameters (not sure what the others are).
I guess that if you reshack this file and replace that string with this one:

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%1

Then it should work. I haven't tried it, so make a backup before you do :)
