are you sure the color palette or whatever it is is the same between pics? What about the sizes, etc?

All that is fine. It has something to do with the modified, saved and re-named exe not connecting with one of Kazaa's dll files. That's the error message I get.
As you know, Resource Hacker auto saves as Kazaa_original.exe and names the modifed "Kazaa.exe" which works in most cases, replacing the original. But for whatever reason, the DLL can "see" that it's not the real (original) kazaa.

I just say CRC32 check...

Thank you Angel333. I am downloading Sentinel Integrity Checker which I hope will be able to scan the modified kazaa.exe and update it's Cyclic Redundancy Check signature, causing it to work with the dlls.
At least that's the plan! (Don't tell me it's not that easy, I'll cry!!!)

I think you're putting in more effort than you should be.

Maybe Kazaa lite, which you should use anyway, doesn't have the CRC32 check.

I was able to change the Kazaa splash screen, but only if I didn't change the DIMENSIONS of the picture.
