So......................

I stopped by here tonight, for the first time in what seems like years, and I could'nt help but notice the "WTF Happened to this forum" thread, and also...... Explicit's "Hello" thread....... hence, my "So...." thread.

How is everyone doing nowadays? I'm hoping well... I see that Red, PK, Pogz...... Crae..... etc....... were posting recently, so I figured I'de say hello to you all.

It takes me back some kind of far to go through all of these old threads from years ago....... I sure do miss it sometimes, and can ya believe that I don't even customize anymore? lol

The only thing done to my XP nowadays are the old speed and performance booster tricks....... that's it..... no visual's whatsoever :( I'm even using Explorer again! lol Pitiful, but true.

Anyway........ off I go....... just wanted to say hello, and I do indeed hope all is well for everyone still here.

What? No customisation? Who are you and what have you done with WinT.

As for me, wild horses couldn't drag me away from personalising my systems. Changing colour and backdrops and moving the taskbar are the least of things on any of my machines.

Hey WinT, hope everything is going well for you too.

Looks like this is now the official retired modders forum... These days I don't do much customizing either, apart from the stuff that doesn't take much effort :).

I've been tweaking things in a lot of ways. I can never get my system to quite work as I think it should, but always way better than I expect too.

Mostly I've been trying to do more with less. Like I have foobar on my start (aka ls !popup) menu set to play/pause. Another example is that I open my browser with a .lnk file to a local page opening it in a new tab (I hate multi-window browsing). Been playing around with rainmeter and autohotkey too.

You should go try out the new rainmeter just to say you did, man. 8) It is pretty crazy what they have done with it.

Oi... that reminds me: I need to update syro's Orb LS theme. The last one came out in early 2008. I pretty much stuck with a modified version of it.

Howdy all!

I check this board every so often, out of nostalgia more than anything else - good to see you're all still around.

I'm not doing the customization thing any more, either. My full-time job is web dev, and since the "good old days" I've got married (expecting our first) - not much time left for playing with coding ideas.

In fact. the last time I needed to program something I opened up my old C++ compiler and had a complete blank moment - like "what am I supposed to do?!". It's been a looonng time.

Anyhoo, good to hear from y'all.

Cheers!

Congratulations, grigir! Have you had your baby yet?

I'm running Win7 these days. I customize it enough to make it more useful, but not through any shell hacks or 3rd party software. I still use some of my console apps and would definitely use ContextAware if it worked on Win7. I still use it on my work XP laptop :)

I do mostly web development at work and very little app development. I miss app development a lot and still dabble with it at home.

Condoleances on the marriage situation. Plus that kid is bound to keep you occupied for a decade or two at least.

A "retired modder" here too: I have since moved to Linux, and do only the odd tweak by editing text files.

Glad to see everyone still checks in every now and again.

And grigri, congrats!

i am not retired just there is nothing to do. :)

since everything i use is customized, (every apps and the windows) + i stick to my style (only minor changes over the years), i only hack / customize things occasionally.

btw i am still using xp and will be using for years.

Good to see that everyone is still around in some capacity or another. I tried to follow an old bookmark that still pointed to virtualplastic.org. I guess that one is long gone. I'm off on Linux now, but I still love the layout of this site. It brings back good memories.

Edit:
Wow, my last post before this was 2003. That's ridiculous ...

Merry 2011 to all!!

@grigri Babies?! Congratulations!! :cheers:

Sure has been a while! Well, after vista came out i went penguin. Had ubuntu on main desktop, and played around with live cds. It's in pieces now. For the last 4-5 years i've been getting lovey dovey with a thinkpad much younger than i. And yes, fuses were broken in the ol' noggin. Such sweet un-adulterated keyboard and trackpoint action!

I did get to upgrade the family's oem encrusted win pc to 7. With aero the 2d response feels snappier than XP with complete themes. But not as snappy as classic mode XP.

BTW, for XP or 7 32bit, might want to give Windows Ready State a try.

That's all for now, all the best on your projects,
schmin

ps. Where is Plastic?

Heya people, long time. Congrats grigri, and hope you are all doing well.

/me is no longer plastic, mostly go around as 'Luucaz' these days, in Habbo, that is. Or rather, doing Habborator, with a bunch of kids (15-19) from all around the world.

When it comes to customization though, still in XP, still using Active desktop with kmr's omegabar (hence grigri's shellhelper.dll), meth's Nobar, undefined's unname, iPhile ans roar's switch. All is habbo themed now, though :p.

Hi everyone! Wow this forum brings back happy modding memories. ^.^ I hope you are all well! And congratulations, grigri!

Sadly I had to stop coding a few years ago due to RSI. T.T Customisation-wise... Well, I still run a few AutoHotkey scripts on my XP SP3 netbook, with a custom Windows 7-ish theme, some regedits, made my own Rainlendar skin. Not much really. I still have my old super-modded 2K box too, lol.

Lately I've been playing alot with my new Android phone. Trying to get all the widgets to match visually has been driving me mad. It almost makes me want to download the SDK and start making my own apps... hehe

Hey hey! :-)

I'm not doing much modding these days. Both my work and private laptop run winXP in classic mode though. Still can't stand too much round fluff. Main thing I've done is some usability tweaks.

You're modding cats @ http://www.happylittleboozer.nl/cats now Mr. Plastic? Here are some of my cat mods: http://bastionna.imgur.com/periko (a thermal imaging camera was involved..) :-)

What the.. that's a pretty awesome fellow Pepijn. That look is just his natural face, I hope (it makes me grin, he's cute), or should I donate some catfood ?

Perkele looks like a cross between a bulldog and a cat. "Sergeant" would be a better name, judging by that moustache.

18 May. 2011 - 16:20 PK
"Perkele"? I don't think he's the Finnish god of thunder ;-). I'd say commander in chief would also have been a good name as the other mammals living in his house seem to be under his command.

He is an Exotic Shorthair and actually won first price at a German national "aren't-we-the-cute-over-groomed-kitten" contest. That was with the previous owner though. These days he's just groomed by us once a month.. or so...

It's his "natural" face. It's a 100% flat and rather weird at first (kids tend to go along the lines of "OMG LOOK AT THAT UGLY CAT! SCARY!"). I personally think it's a '"design" flaw though, if we don't clean around his nose and eyes every few days it will clog up and he will have problems breathing. Pet breeders interested in Eugenics, brilliant.. :-/

Ahoy! I used to post as vvraith. I've loong since lost the email it's registered under and forgotten the password.

I'm on Windows 7 now and haven't really wanted to hack it at all. It's pretty much as I like it. (Of course, with Cygwin running inside Console2 for that must-have cli functionality ;) )

It's been pretty quiet around here, eh?

I can't believe I can remember my password to this site....I stopped modding, too. No more registry tweaks or Litestep themes, etc. I kind of got out of it when I went from being an "IT enthusiast" to an "IT professional." Pretty much all of the time I would spend tinkering around with computers for fun is now spent tinkering around with computers for money. Which means I don't tinker around with what I want to anymore. I have to tinker around with what needs to be fixed. I guess that's good, but there is a difference between doing something because you want to and doing something because it's your job. And to be honest, about the last thing I want to do when I get home is tinker around with my own computer. Its an old POS laptop running Windows 7. The only thing modified on it is my wallpaper. And I installed Firefox. Other than that, it's pretty much vanilla. Now I spend a good amount of my free time drinking home made beer, playing the xbox, or a combination of the two.

In any event, I have always considered the modding scene, specifically this website, one of the motivating factors that landed me a job in IT.

Heya all! Glad to hear that some of us are still alive and kicking!

Not much to say about the Windows modding scene (I've since moved to Windows 7), but I do like to spend some time time tinkering with Android.

Some of the active desktop trickery I've done payed off - I'm now a full-time web developer :)
