multi-monitor setup

My home laptop is set up with an additional monitor, and for "normal" usage I use an extended desktop. However, unlike the default settings my monitor is on the left of my laptop. I can set this up easily enough, but when I switch to laptop-only or monitor-only (for various fullscreen apps), then switch back, it always sets up the virtual desktop with the monitor on the right. Always. I have to use the control panel to set it manually every time.

Does anyone know of registry settings/apps/commands/prayers/curses that might have an effect on this? Setting the config by a bat file would be fine, I just need some way of automating it.

cheers all

If there's a registry setting, then you can identify it with Regshot
http://regshot.blog.googlepages.com/regshot.html
Ok, this is really worthwile: "RegShot is a small registry compare utility that allows you to quickly take a snapshot of your registry and then compare it with a second one - done after doing system changes or installing a new software product. The changes report can be produced in text or HTML format and contains a list of all modifications that have taken place between snapshot1 and snapshot2. In addition, you can also specify folders (with subfolders) to be scanned for changes as well." - You need this one.
My guess ,though, is it's going to look very cryptic.
