File type association cleanup job!
I figure VP is always going to be my best bet for making an app request/suggestion thread

Though this is more of a backend job than an interface change.
Some apps handle file associations elegantly - one (Default) = blahfile and then contain all the pertinent info in HKCR/blahfile. Some, however, are not so elegant, spewing their file associations willy nilly, here and there, putting 37 different file types in the file types list when one would suffice. Irfanview is a perfect example.
So what I'm wondering is, how difficult would it be to take an app that can scan HKCR's file types and look at the various associations there, then provide a summary and allow you to "clean up" these messy file types?
Just thinking out loud, like
Erm, did you read the post in its entirety?
Windows folder options is and always has been a terrible interface and doesn't actually let you do everything that you can do. I was specifically talking about something that would provide a neater, more efficient way of cleaning up that part of the registry.
I know there are apps out there that play with file associations, but as far as I know none of them analyse it in this way or allow you to do bulk fixing/cleanup of this sort. If you have any sensible suggestions, then I'm quite willing to follow them up.
